A beautiful and extraordinary production of Bauersima’s compassionate, compelling and humorous play. Director, Justin McGuiness masterfully combines naturalistic performance with film, live camera projection and haunting soundscape. He has created a gripping production that is both subtle and extremely powerful. Based on a true story, Norway Today begins in an Internet chat room. Julie, from Germany has announced that she is going to kill herself, and doesn’t want to do it alone. She wants a companion to join her in jumping off a 600m cliff in Norway. August, from Adelaide responds to her request, and they agree to meet. Together they set out for their final destination equipped with a tent, some sandwiches and a video camera. Julie and August long to feel something real and intense, and living to them can no longer simply mean just existing. However, in the rocky abyss over a Norwegian fjord, they are exposed to another kind of reality that could bind them to life…something stronger than death. "This is a profound and moving story... it is also funny, romantic and uplifting. Norway Today is both heart wrenching and heart warming. It is also profoundly relevant.... the performances of Guenther as Julie and O’Keefe as August are astonishing." Stephanie Johnson, Adelaide Theatre Guide "These characters, who have sentenced themselves to death, remind us constantly how vivid it is to be alive." Murray Bramwell, Adelaide Review "I would urge, entreat, plead with, and even command, that you go and see this beautifully performed funny, life-affirming play..... Believe me: it will be the best two hours that you have ever spent in a theatre." Myk Mykyta, Radio Adelaide "Norway Today has the smarts, laughs, heart and passion that we expect from the first class theatre we continually crave, but rarely get. Don't miss it."
