National Curatorial & Advisory Panel The panel suggests successful Australian independant productions for touring. This makes up a shortlist and from this shortlist, Critical Stages chooses productions to make up the Critical Stages programme.

Productions are evaluated against the following criteria:

1. Is the production creatively envisioned, well crafted, innovative, and/or original?
2. The practicality of the show for touring/transferring.
3. The production must have had a box office success with a lengthy previous season.
4. Critical acclaim: press and industry.
5. The level of professionalism of the producing group or company; do they demonstrate high levels of professional work practices?
6. Will the producing team be a diplomatic and good representative for the independent sector and Critical Stages?
7. The audience to which a production may be directed and the direct benefit to audiences and presenters.
9.The ongoing benefit to the artists and their companies; will their involvement encourage sustainability and development of bodies of work?
10.The producing group or company does not have infrastructure (or has very little); such as administration staff, or marketing etc and so need Critical Stages support
